A
few words about the
NEB Paint
Team: The Fine Art of
Standing Out in a Crowd
|
|
|
|
There's
more to achieving a flawless
paint finish than a paint booth,
and NEB's Paint Team has it:
Experience, expertise, and a
deft touch. A lot of boatyards
offer linear-polyurethane topside
and deck paint jobs, but judging
by the satisfied glow on the
faces of NEB's paint customers,
our NEB Paint Team is hard to
beat. What makes a great paint
crew? Experience, pride, and
top-notch equipment, and then
there's teamwork. Painting is
a team sport. And we've got
the first-place team.

It
is nothing short of amazing
the way a first-class
Awlgrip linear polyurethane
paint job can transform
your yacht. The deep shine
can remove years from your
boat's age, and the hardness
and toughness of Awlgrip
far outpaces the durability
of gelcoat. But what separates
a flawless Awlgrip topsides
or deck paint job from a
so-so result? A few things:
Preparation is all important.
Only a meticulous dedication
to filling, fairing, sanding,
and chasing down the tiniest
of flaws in the work surface
will yield a superior finish.
(Awlgrip, famous for its
brilliant, rich luster,
is also extremely "unforgiving"
in that it highlights the
most minute ripple or bump).
Next is a similarly fanatical
attention to masking --
overspray is an unwelcome
by-product of a poorly-masked
job. Finally, the fine art
of team-spraying Awlgrip
(see the box at left) under
controlled conditions is
the key to perfection.

Awlgrip
may be the Mercedes of paints,
but antifouling
is just as important. For
the best adhesion and finish,
proper
surface preparation, whether
that means stripping or
a thorough sanding, is important.
Along the way to preparing
your boat for a great bottom
job, NEB can take care of
routine maintenance (such
as changing the zincs or
checking the Cutless bearing)
and repairs (when you went
aground last summer, the
bottom was more rock than
mud). Whether your boat
is a racer or a cruiser,
power or sail, we are happy
to assist you in selecting
the antifouling paint and
application method (roller
or spray) that's best for
your baby's bottom. For
