Elevating

Surf

100% wheelchair access
Surf
flashes her speed &
style
The building
of Surf presented NEB
with exactly the kind of design,
engineering, mechanical/electrical,
and all-around problem-solving
type of challenge that we love
to take on: The Owner asked not
only for a state-of-the-art composite-built
luxury motoryacht, but the yacht
had to be completely accessible
and able to be operated from a
wheelchair. We achieved the Owner's
wishes through a combination of
inventive engineering and calling
on the nearly unlimited custom
fabrication capabilities of our
various departments. Everyone
at NEB contributed to the concept
and the realization of this well
thought out and highly-rewarding
yacht.
Surf
has numerous unique features,
many of them engendered in the
process of making the yacht wheelchair-accessible.
Here's just a few of them: An
elevating
swim platform allows
easy access to/from the yacht's
tender or a dock. An "escalator"
companionway accomplishes
moving from the salon to the staterooms
at the push of a button. The elevating
helm station allows
complete wheelchair operation
of Surf's helm and controls.
A specially-equipped
"hospital" berth
in the master stateroom is designed
to handle onboard medical emergencies.
Surf's
joinery utilized carefully selected
Honduras mahogany, finished
with high-gloss varnish and
offset by white-painted bulkheads
-- the classic Herreshoff look.
The yacht features a teak-and-holly
sole throughout. Accommodations
include three staterooms, each
with head, and a crew's quarters
forward.
